Description

Jancis Robinson, August 2017

“Very deep, bright crimson. Intensely ripe nose with a ‘schistous’ minerally top note. Very beautiful tannin management. Lots of potential. The Carignan adds rigour. Pretty youthful and concentrated. Rudely healthy. Chapeau! 16.5+”

Jeb Dunnuck , The Wine Advocate, April 2016:

“The second wine of the estate, and still impressive, the 2015 St Chinian 2eme Vin offers full-bodied aromas and flavors of black raspberries, incense and violets, as well as terrific density, loads of fruit and a layered, balanced profile on the palate. Consultant Claude Gros committed that St Chinian wasn’t easy in 2015 due to rain, but that he dropped crop early, and in this case, I think the results speak for themselves.”

Guide Hachette 2018
Coup de Cœur – Mezura 2015 ***
“First vintage and a master stroke for Thomas Hills, with this cuvee of Syrah (65%) and Carignan. A dark, rich and complex wine with aromas of multiple fruity expressions (black cherry, cherry with brandy, blaccurrant coulis, pepper), embellished with an elegant touch of violet and fresh scents of the garrigue. Notes of tobacco and vanilla accompany this in a perfectly balanced palate, ample and long, with silky, melting tannins and a superb liquorice finish. 2018-2024; duck breast.”

Bettane & Desseauve 2018

“Tom Hills has real ambition and the first red released transcribed this magnificently. A maceration lasting six weeks, a rare duration in the appellation producing a powerful red, Mezura, a rare formal perfection. One to follow closely.”

Mezura  (measure) is a concept used in Troubadour poetry to suggest dignity and self-restraint. The passions of youth (joven) are governed by mezura: respect for the complex rules of courtly society that elevated Fin ‘ Amor to the level of consummate art, sublimating desire.
