Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate on La Lauzeta’s 2015 vintage:
“Maybe the greatest St Chinian I’ve tasted” (92-94+) / 100 @Wine_Advocate @jebdunnuck
The top wine of the estate, and the maybe the greatest St Chinian I’ve tasted (albeit from barrel), the 2015 St Chinian 1er Vin is a blend of Syrah and Grenache, from schist soils, that was completely destemmed, and aged in a mix of demi-muids and barrels. Its inky purple color is followed by a deep, layered red that offers sensational notes of black raspberries, black cherries, classy oak and spice. Possessing terrific purity, good acidity and high quality tannin, it’s still incredibly young, and therefore riskier to gauge, yet it’s no doubt an outstanding wine and bodes well for the 2015 vintage!
A new estate for me, I was able to taste these wines with their consultant Claude Gros. While incredibly young (which makes any judgements difficult), the raw material here is stunning, and these are some wines I can’t wait to try again from bottle.
